What is the test based on?

ViralStatDx can detect COVID-19 and Flu with greater accuracy than standard screening and detection solutions in less than 60 seconds.

It works based on the quantitative levels of Polyamines in the saliva. Polyamines are small molecules which are generated through catabolic pathways involving some amino acids.

These polyamines were demonstrated to be involved in many cellular processes. Inside the cell, polyamines are present in nearly millimolar concentrations.

There is equilibrium between polyamines that are bound to different polyanionic molecules (mainly DNA and RNA) and free polyamines.

The free polyamine pool represents 7-10% of the total cellular polyamine content.

How does it work?

When cells are infected with pathogens such as Corona viruses and influenza, the number of free polyamines in body fluids such as saliva increases dramatically, and this characteristic can be effectively used in a diagnostic test for COVID-19.

Recent metabolomics studies clearly showed elevated levels of spermidine in plasma of COVID-19 patients compared to healthy subjects.

However, the testing methodology used like the RT-PCR can only be done in reference lab settings and results take much longer.

Most importantly, the people performing the tests do not need to have credentials like certified laboratory technicians.

The initial proof-of-concept studies for detecting COVID-19 by IMS Polyamine test gave the following results: 100% sensitivity, 97% specificity, and 97.5% accuracy.
